Rofluid M is a new generation admixture, which is an aqueous solution of polycarboxylate ether (PCE) with a low viscosity and yellow to brown color. It is used as a very effective concrete setting retarder and an efficient admixture that reduces the flow limits of the concrete mix. It can be mixed with other products from the Rofluid series.

The mechanism of action of Rofluid M is the result of its chemical structure. PCEs are compounds with a specific structure, the so-called comb structure, which consists of a long main chain and side chains with lengths resulting from the number of repeating units of ethylene oxide and/or propylene. The polymer chains adsorb on the surface of cement grains, creating a steric hindrance for neighboring grains. The resulting particles with a certain hydrodynamic volume (different depending on the structure of the polymer) will repel each other when they are too close to each other. Agglomeration of grains is thus hindered, the time of formation of cement hydration products is prolonged and the setting of the concrete mix is ​​delayed. In addition, a concrete mix with the addition of Rofluid M allows to obtain a concrete mix with very good workability, while preventing the segregation of ingredients, thanks to which the resulting concrete is tight.

This product shows very good properties reducing the amount of mixing water in the concrete mix. Thanks to the addition of Rofluid M, the water/cement ratio can be reduced, reducing water consumption by up to 35%. This has a direct impact on the durability of concrete, its early strength increases (this enables faster demolding of concrete elements) and late strength, the concrete becomes more tight, and thus its resistance to aggressive substances and frost and abrasion resistance increases.

To obtain concrete with standard strengths, it is recommended to use 0.4-1.0% of Rofluid M in relation to the binder mass, while to obtain concrete with high strength and fluidity, 0.5-1.5% of the product is usually used in relation to the binder mass. However, it should be remembered that the decision regarding the target dose of PCE will depend, among others, on on the type of cement, the method of preparing the mixture, the method of mixing or the ambient temperature. Rofluid M can be used at an air temperature of up to -5°C, the consistency of the concrete mix will not deteriorate, and cement hydration will not be inhibited.

The use of Rofluid M is recommended primarily in the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC), large-size concrete elements with the required high strength and high workability, bridge concrete, but also prefabricated elements. After applying Rofluid M, the concrete mix will gain a very good consistency, extended setting time, and the resulting concrete will be more durable and tight.
