Acetic acid is a colorless, corrosive liquid with a pungent vinegar odor. Easily soluble in water and methyl alcohol. Acetic acid has hygroscopic properties.
Acetic acid is used:
in tanning – for leather tanning;
in the textile industry – for dyeing;
in heating technology for boiler descaling;
in the chemical industry as a component of cleaning and disinfecting agents;
in industrial water treatment.
Other applications include: organic synthesis, production of monochloroacetic acid, acetic anhydride, and polyvinyl acetate; and as a natural latex coagulant.
